Buying insurance for a car or even a van for just seven days is no longer any problem whatsoever for the vast majority of UK motorists. Most of the popular vehicles on our roads can be covered, and drivers from as young as 18 and as old as 75 are free to apply for policies. The proviso would be that the vehicle was either owned by the driver or borrowed from someone else; hired vehicles unfortunately cannot be accepted under these schemes; and the period of cover is limited to anything up to 28 days for any one policy. The application form is very easy indeed; you would need to know the registration details of the car that you wished to insure in order to buy a policy but if you are only looking for an estimate even this would not be necessary for this stage. The whole process should take no more than two or 3 minutes from start to finish and to make matters even simpler even the documentation will be made available straightaway, with immediate access to important details such as the insurance certificate which you can print out if you wish.

Since the whole process is carried out online you can of course get quotations or buy a policy at whatever time of day or night is convenient for you.

Available policies include third-party as well as fully comprehensive cover, and you may be able to compare quotations from several different underwriters subject to your own individual circumstances. You would not need to take out cover right away after you have had a quotation; you could book it to begin at a time and date of your choosing within the next four weeks, as well as decide how long you wanted the cover to last for, making the whole system flexible enough to fit in with your requirements.

At a time when there is a government clampdown on uninsured drivers it is as well to be aware that vehicle owners who lend cars to drivers who have no insurance are also committing an offence for which the penalties are extremely severe, and can include loss of licence as well as a considerable fine. Buying a seven day insurance policy or ensuring that a person you have lent your car to buys one will prove to be a very worthwhile investment.
